Over a million people visited EXPO 2005 in Aichi, Japan, from March 25 through September 25, 2005. The silver 1,000 Yen coin features the oceans of the Pacific Rim, surrounded by young trees, symbolizing peace and the love of nature. The reverse features the symbol of the Expo 2005 Aichi above five horizontal lines depicting the ground, representing Expo 2005 and the four other world expositions that have been held in Japan. Two latent images, “1000” (the face value of the coin) and “Nippon” (meaning Japan), are alternately visible between two of the lines.
