In preparation for the 2025 Lunar New Year on January 29, The People’s Bank of China issued a new 20 Yuan commemorative banknotes. The visual motif celebrates the Year of Snake. Approximately 100 million of the notes were put into circulation.

This is the second Lunar New Year commemorative note in a series to be introduced over the course of 12 years, thus completing the Chinese Zodiac.

Both sides of the 2025 Lunar New Year Commemorative banknote are vertical in orientation.

The front side features a dragon as the main design as well as the national emblem of the People’s Republic of China.

The back side depicts children performing a dragon dance with traditional lanterns, and Mongolian, Tibetan, Uyghur, and Zhang text.

Security features built into the note include the following:

  • A transparent window containing dynamic, color shifting holographic images of the Chinese Fu (Luck) character
  • The denomination “20” on the face of the note is in green SICPA SPARK ORIGIN®.
  • Intaglio printing.

The People's Bank of China issued a new 10 Yuan commemorative bi-metal coin.

The obverse features a dragon as the main design with traditional lantern, and Chinese wordings in "Year of the Snake". 

The reverse depicts the national emblem of the People's Republic of China, and Mongolian, Tibetan, Uyghur, and Zhang text in Chinese.
