In preparation for the 2025 Lunar New Year on January, The People’s Bank of China issued a new 20 Yuan commemorative banknotes. The visual motif celebrates the Year of Horse. Approximately 100 million of the notes were put into circulation.
This is the second Lunar New Year commemorative note in a series to be introduced over the course of 12 years, thus completing the Chinese Zodiac.
The 2025 Lunar New Year Commemorative banknote are vertical in orientation.
The front side features a snake as the main design as well as the national emblem of the People’s Republic of China.
The back side depicts children performing a dragon dance with traditional lanterns, and Mongolian, Tibetan, Uyghur, and Zhang text.
Security features built into the note include the following:
- A transparent window containing dynamic, color shifting holographic images of the Chinese Fu (Luck) character
- The denomination “20” on the face of the note is in green SICPA SPARK ORIGIN®.
- Intaglio printing.
