Issued by the People's Bank of China.  This coin is part of 2000-2011 1 oz Lunar Zodiac Animal 12-pc Set - Series I 

Ancient Chinese used to count years with the Heavenly Streams and Earthly Branches, and use twelve animals to represent the twelve Earthly Branches. The twelve animals were endowed with different meaning according to their nature, and there came into being the special Shengxiao culture. People born in the year of the animal shall have some common characteristics with the animal. 2006 is the year of the dog. The dog is timely, brave, loyal, and devoted to its duty.

The obverse design features the scenery of Qingyuanlou on the Great Wall, together with the title of the PRC, and the year 2006. The reverse design features the painting "Frisking Dogs", and the face 10 Yuan.
