The Perth Mint has released the 2014 Year of the Horse coins, the newest issue in their Australian Lunar coin series. Available now through Panda America, the new 1-oz gold BU coins celebrate the 2014 Year of the Horse, one of the 12 animals associated with the ancient Chinese lunar calendar. The obverse features the classic Ian Rank Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, along with the year 2014 and country of issue, Australia. In Chinese culture, people born in the Year of the Horse - 1918, 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002 and 2014 - are regarded as hardworking, sociable, optimistic and energetic. The Chinese character for "horse" appears in the design with The Perth Mint's traditional "P" mintmark.
