Three
new coins have been issued by Cambodia,
each with latent dual dates 2005-2006. The
most spectacular coin is a 1 oz. pure silver
proof, with a 3.5 gm. pure gold insert;
it features a vibrant hologram of the majestic
Taj Mahal flashing a multitude of colors
-- subtle pinks, mystic silver-gray, a tinge
of blue, etc. Only 3,000 of these 10,000
Riels coins have been issued, priced at
$239 each, including presentation box and
Certificate of Authenticity.
Taj
Mahal, meaning "Chosen one of the Palace"
is the burial place of the beloved wife
Mumtaz Mahal, of the Mughal Emperor Shah
Jahan; she died in childbirth in 1631. Construction
began in the following year, and the entire
complex took more than 20,000 workers 22
years to complete.
A
Kathak Dancer is featured in full color
on the 20 gm. silver proof 3,000 Riels coin.
This style of dancing was a fusion of Hindu
and Muslim styles; it originated in Northern
India during the period 1526-1761. The dancer,
wearing more than 100 ankle bells, makes
spectacular controlled spins. The limited
mintage of 10,000 pieces are available for
$69 each, including presentation box and
Certificate of Authenticity.
