Invented by the Chinese sometime between 480-221 BC, the compass is considered one of the four greatest Chinese inventions. It actually works by placing a magnetized spoon on a 2 3/4" square earthplate; the handle of the spoon points south. The compass comes in a gift box with an informative brochure.
