The “Happy U” logo of Universiade Shenzhen 2011 consists of colored dots of varying size--conveying the message that the Universiade is a carnival gathering for university students from around the world. The “U” can also stand for “university”, “you”, “union”, “universe,” etc. Another interpretation is that the variedly colored and sized dots indicate a gathering of people of different races and colors.

The reverse of the 1 oz silver coin features the scene of the "Universiade Center" ornamented with its inverted image in the water, the words of "The 26th Summer Universiade, Shenzhen" in both Chinese and English, and the face value. The reverse of the 1/4 oz gold coin features the mascot of the 26th Summer Universiade Shenzhen with a background pattern of athletic track, light beam and stars, the face value, etc. “UU,” the smiling face mascot of the 26th Summer Universiade evolved from the event's logo “Happy U.”

Athletes from 45 countries—including the United States--will compete in over 30 different sports—such as archery, chess, cycling, gymnastics, sailing, shooting, soccer, swimming, table tennis, tennis, weightlifting, etc. To prepare, the city of Shenzhen—which is only 26 years old—is building 12 new stadiums and gyms in the Futian, Nanshan and Luohu Districts, plus a new International Olympic Centre featuring a 60,000-seat main stadium, a 18,000-seat gym, a 13.4-square-kilometre park and other facilities in the Longgang District.
