"Year of the Goat" Coins from Singapore Feature
Chinese Paper-Cut
A huge clean-up
gets underway days before the New Year, when Chinese homes are
cleaned from top to bottom, to sweep away any traces of bad
luck, and doors and windowpanes are given a new coat of paint,
usually red. The doors and windows are then decorated with paper-cuts
and couplets with themes such as happiness, wealth and longevity
printed on them.
A paper-cut
design is also featured on 2003 "Year of the Goat"
2 oz. silver piefort (double-thick) coins issued by the Monetary
Authority of Singapore. Only 35,000 Proof coins have been
issued, each in a deluxe presentation box. They are large
40.7 mm. diameter, weighing 2 troy oz. of pure (999 fine)
silver, with a face value of 10 Singapore Dollars. Previous
Singapore lunar-zodiac commemorative coins have quickly sold
out, so early orders are recommended.
