Banco de Mexico Issues Bicentenario Gold Coins & 8 Coin Set Commemorating the Bi-Centennial of the Mexican Independence (1810-2010)
The Banco de Mexico has issued new collectors items commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the Mexican Independence Movement. Three items in total have been issued to commemorate the "Bi-Centennial of the Mexican Independence", available from official distributor Panda America:
- A Proof “Bicentenario” Gold Coin - containing 1.2 oz. of .900 pure gold & with a legal tender denomination of 200 pesos. The Proof version also includes a Banco de México wooden box and Certificate of Authenticity.
- A Brilliant Uncirculated “Bicentenario” Gold Coin - containing 1.2 oz. of .900 pure gold & with a legal tender denomination of 200 pesos.
- An 8-coin legal-tender bimetallic set featuring brilliant uncirculated bimetallic coins in a handsome Bank of Mexico custom folder.
The new version of the goddess Victory (called El Ángel de la Independencia) - appears on the gold coin commemorating the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the Mexican Independence Movement. The same portrayal was used in 1921, on the gold 50 peso coins, commonly referred to as "Centenarios". However, the newest version of El Ángel features the iconic figure viewed from a new perspective at a different angle. She is holding a laurel crown in her right hand and a broken chain in her other hand. The weight (1.2 oz.) and fineness of gold (.900) are the same as the 50 Peso bullion coins dated 1921-1947.
