"Good Luck" Laos Flower Horn Fish Commemorative Coin
Receives Most Popular Coin Award at Asia Money Fair

This new fish coin, featuring vibrant body colors, is making a big splash in Asia. Authorized by the Bank of The People's Democratic Republic of Lao, these coins feature the exotic and beautiful Flower Horn Fish (commonly known as Hua Luo Han), that has captivated the hearts of many tropical fish enthusiasts for its unique characteristics and features. It is especially known for the hump on its forehead, distinctive black spots on the body and vibrant colors. According to enthusiasts, the distinctive black spots at times resemble Chinese Characters. The value of the Flower Horn Fish is very much enhanced by the size of the hump. It is believed that a bigger hump fish is able to bring more luck and prosperity to its owner.

There are three types of proof silver 15,000 Kip face value coins, each with a tiny mintage of 2,300 and containing 20 gm. of pure (999 fine) silver: "Abundance," featuring the fish in full color, "Flourish," with a multiple latent image of the Chinese characters meaning rising fortune and prosperity, and "Achievement," featuring a dynamic hologram in the background. These are priced at $55, $55 and $68 respectively. The silver coins are also available in a specially packaged limited edition 3-coin proof set, with a limited mintage of 1,500 sets worldwide, priced at $155. The other side features the Coat of Arms of The Lao People's Democratic Republic and a special latent image of the year, showing "2003" and "2004".

There are two types of gold coins: BU 10,000 Kip "Abundance," 1/25 oz. of pure (9999 fine) gold, and Proof 100,000 Kip "Achievement," ½ oz. of pure (9999 fine) gold featuring a dynamic hologram in the background, priced at $40 and $395 respectively. The other side features the Coat of Arms of The Lao People's Democratic Republic and a special latent image of the year, showing "2003" and "2004".
