Year of the Monkey Proof Gold and Silver Coins
Issued by the People's Bank of China
China has
issued gold and silver legal tender Proof coins commemorating
the upcoming Year of the Monkey. According to the Chinese Lunar
Zodiac, those born in the Year of the Monkey have magnetic personalities,
are well-liked and clever.
The flower
shaped 40mm. 1 oz. pure silver (6,800 made) and 27mm. 1/2
oz. pure gold coins (2,300 minted) feature a monkey on a tree
branch; they are priced at $78 and $475 respectively.
Two monkeys
on a tree branch are featured on the 50 x 80mm. rectangular
shaped 5 oz. pure silver coins (1,888 minted) priced at $325,
and 40 x 64mm. 5 oz. pure gold coins (only 118 made) price
on request.
Only 15
impressive 100mm. flower shaped Year of the Monkey proof 1
Kilo coins were minted from 999 fine gold, price on request.
The design features a baby monkey being held by an adult.
The common
obverse design of each of these coins is a Chinese folk paper-cut
decorative pattern of a monkey, together with the name of
the country in Chinese, and the date 2004.
