Bimetallic and Platinum Coins
Commemorate 20th Anniversary of Panda Coins
The gold Panda
coins issued by China in 1982 launched gold and silver coin series
that are among the most popular with collectors and bullion buyers
around the world. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Panda coins,
the People's Republic of China has issued two proof legal tender commemoratives.
Both coins have small mintages, and only a small percentage are available
in the United States.
The 300 yuan
Panda coin contains a full kilogram (2.7 troy pounds) of pure .999
fine silver with two golden inserts of the 1982 and 2002 gold Panda
coins. This is truly a "Giant" Panda, measuring nearly
4 inches in diameter. The mintage is limited to only 6,000 proofs.
Pictured on the other side is one of China's most famous ancient
structures - the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests in the Temple
of Heaven.
The tenth troy
oz. pure .9995 fine platinum Jubilee Panda has a face value of 100
yuan; the diameter is 18 mm. Only 20,000 proofs have been issued.
These are the first platinum Panda coins issued in nearly a decade.
This is the first "Double Panda," since pandas are pictured
on both sides -- the original 1982 and current 2002 designs.
Bimetallic
Kilo and tenth oz. platinum Jubilee Pandas are available for
$650 and $149 respectively, on a first come - first served basis,
from distributor Pandaamerica, 3460 Torrance Blvd., Suite 100, Torrance,
CA 90503. Credit card orders can be placed by calling 800-4-PANDAS
or emailing info@pandaamerica.com. Delivery is expected in May 2002.
