China Announces 2010 Year of the Tiger Coins
The People’s Bank of China has announced through official distributor Panda America the release of a total of fourteen 2010-dated silver and gold legal tender coins commemorating the Year of the Tiger, coins made in pure 99.9% gold and silver. According to the Chinese lunar calendar, 2010 is the year of Gengyin (Tiger), and people believe that it will bring happiness, luck, and great success for everyone. Legend has it that the 12 lunar-zodiac animals were selected by the Jade Emperor. He conducted a race of all the animals, and named the years in the order that they finished. The tiger finished third, behind the rat and ox. The Tiger is regarded as the "King of Beasts", and is known for being brave, sturdy and full of energy. Those born in the Year of the Tiger (1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998 or 2010) are said to be fearless, thoughtful, sympathetic and loving.
